Who can apply? 

 To gain access to the data in the National Disability Data Asset, researchers must: 

  • be associated with an organisation accredited by the National Data Commissioner under the Data Availability and Transparency Act 2022
  • agree to follow the principles and rules in the Charter
  • agree to publish some of their findings in accessible formats 
  • meet other researcher and project requirements, like using data in an ethical way.  

When can I apply? 

Researchers can now apply for data access. If you would like to apply for access you can contact the Australian Bureau of Statistics at ndda@abs.gov.au.

What data will be available in the first release? 

The National Disability Data Asset will bring together de-identified data about all Australians. This includes data from Australian, state and territory governments. 

The first release of the National Disability Data Asset includes the following data:

  • National Disability Insurance Scheme
  • Medicare Benefits Schedule
  • Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme
  • Demographic information from the Medicare Consumer Directory
  • Death Registrations (for all states and territories)
  • Social security information (Centrelink administrative data)
  • Survey of Disability, Ageing and Carers
  • Admitted Patient Care (South Australia)
  • Non-admitted patient emergency department care (South Australia)

More data will be available throughout 2025. The National Disability Data Asset is expected to be fully operational in 2026. This page will be updated as more information is available.
